How to Choose a Business Name and Check Its Domain
A name needs to work in conversation, on an email address and as a domain. Check those practical details before building the brand around it.
A business name appears in conversation, invoices, a website and every email the team sends. If people cannot say, spell or remember it easily, each of those moments needs extra explanation.
Choose clarity over cleverness
Ask whether someone could write the name after hearing it once, whether it works without confusing abbreviations, and whether it still looks professional as hello@yourdomain.com. A short name is not automatically useful; a clear one usually is.
Check the domain early
Use the domain name generator before designing a logo or printing material. A domain search tells you whether a web address is available at that moment. If the first option is not available, test alternatives that remain easy to say and do not resemble another business closely enough to confuse customers.
A domain search is not legal clearance
Domain availability does not confirm that a name is available as a trademark, legal entity or trade name. Treat those as separate checks with the authorities and processes that apply to your business.
